Restylane® is a long-lasting gel of Non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid that, when injected into the skin, lifts and adds volume to the areas being treated. Restylane® is an excellent alternative to collagen injections and does not require a skin test. Restylane® is dermal filler which smooth wrinkles and folds.
Restylane® is hyaluronic acid, which is identical to that found in the body, does not cause any allergic type reaction . Hyaluronic acid, binds water in your skin to lift and restore the skin’s natural elasticity and volume, thus reducing the size of wrinkles and grooves or adding volume to areas such as the lips.
Restylane® is used for wrinkle reduction, lip enhancement, deep folds, smile lines and thin superficial lines around the eyes, mouth & forehead. It is also used for shaping facial contours such as the cheeks or chin and lip augmentation.
The treatment is performed in the clinic by injecting Restylane® into the desired area with a tiny needle. This gives natural volume to the treated area. Because no pre-injection skin test is needed, it takes less than 30 minutes. The injection is usually easily tolerated with minimal discomfort. However, anesthetic creams can be used to reduce the pain of the injections.
How long the effect of Restylane® treatment lasts varies with the individual. Studies have shown that Restylane® effects generally last for about six months. Most patients will have another treatment within a year since the hyaluronic acid in both products will dissolve over time.
After your treatment, you might have some redness or swelling or a mild burning sensation in the area injected. This will normally last less than seven days. Avoid excessive sun and UV lamp exposure, and extreme cold weather until any redness or swelling disappear. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have severe allergies, or under 18, you shouldn’t use Restylane®.
